I thought that since a large part of my blog will be about studying as a student, I’d start off with some of my favorite tips. I’ve tried to make them different from those tips you tend to see quite a lot- so I hope you find them useful. So- onto the tips!:
Plan, plan, plan:
This has to be the tip that I find best for me. First of all you need something to plan with. I personally use a planner (I used to use a bullet journal) but this is only because I like decorating it. A plain notebook- or even just a piece of paper would work fine! Every morning (or the evening before) I will write what I plan to do (eg. studying or homework), write any events occurring that day (eg. going to dance class) and I will also record any notes (eg. remembering to hand in a letter). This way I know what I have to get done that day so that I can structure my it and make sure that I get everything done. It also means that I can tick off any accomplished tasks which I kinda love because it makes me feel productive.
Record the hours you study:
This tip may not be for everyone, but personally I find that it works really well as a motivator. Essentially, whenever I study throughout the day I use the stopwatch on my phone to record how much I study. At the end of the day I then record how many hours I studied for. I will do this in a quickly hand-drawn graph for the week. This way I can see which days I am most productive, and it also motivates me to keep going so that I can mark down a higher number of hours. I also then transfer the total hours for the week to a monthly graph purely because I find it interesting to look at. Another benefit of doing this is that I can see a glance when I am not being as productive as I usually am.
Have specific times that you start to study:
So the title pretty much speaks for itself. For example, I get home at 4pm from school, have an hour break whilst I eat my dinner and watch tv etcetera. At 5pm I know that I will start doing my homework/ studying- essentially doing the tasks which I have written beforehand in my planner. This way I have a structured day and can make sure that I don’t leave everything to the last minute.
Get up and wake up earlier!:
Okay, so this one kind of sucks- not going to lie. But it does work. Sometimes I go to sleep at 9pm and wake up at 5am which is great because it means that I have two hours to fully wake up and get some work done before I even start getting ready for the day. Now, I’m not suggesting that you do it this early, but as long as you have some time for yourself in the morning instead of rushing around. This is great because it means that you are not stressed straight away in the morning. In addition, you can (as mentioned in tip one) plan your day. If you have time, and are willing to, studying in the morning is also great! It means that you will have less to do in the evening (aka more time for netflix) and you will feel productive and accomplished BEFORE the day has even started!
It’s so easy to get stressed over studying and over-revise- especially because you can always do more revision unlike a piece of homework which can be completed. But you mustn’t overwork yourself. All this will lead to is an eventual breakdown which will mean you will be getting nothing done. Overworking yourself will often also lead to, ironically, worse exam scores. If you are tired you won’t be taking in anything- and you will be essentially torturing yourself for nothing. So I beg of you, take breaks. Make time to see friends, do extra-curricular activities and (of course) watch tv!
Okay, so this one might be just me- but motivational quotes are SO helpful for me. I always have one as my lock screen and change it A LOT- often everyday. It means that if I am procrastinating by looking at my phone it will motivate me to go back to work, and if I am feeling down it will pick me back up again. I also find that inspiring quotes from people who have worked their way to their top are especially beneficial- inspiring me to be just like them. So, if you are ever feeling a little down, please just do a little web search for quotes to pick yourself back up!
(So I tried to make my own quote art ^^^^ but it REALLY failed :/)
Thanks for reading, and I’ll be back with another post very soon!
